On 16 June 24:00, the three-month long quarantine ended. As of 17 June, emergency situation regime with the following restrictions applied.

QUARANTINE ANNOUNCED throughout the territory of the Republic of Lithuania
To control the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Government decided to declare quarantine on the entire territory of the Republic of Lithuania. The quarantine regime shall be effective from 16 March 2020, 00:00, until 16th June 2020, 24:00.

Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania, in response to the unfavourable conditions of COVID-19 (coronavirus infection) epidemic situation, and in regard to the quarantine declared in the territory of the Republic of Lithuania from 00:00 hours on 16th March 2020 by the decision of the Government of Lithuania no. 207 made on 14th March 2020 “Regarding declaring quarantine within the Republic of Lithuania” (thereafter – the Decision No. 207) criteria, is providing RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE FILMING CREWS and subcontractors regarding organisation of operations during the quarantine.

Update as of 29th May, 2020

Vilnius, Lithuania: The Government has extended quarantine till 16th June, although regulations has been eased since mid-May and will be eased further starting from 1st June. On May 18th The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania has approved COVID-19 safety recommendations during filming, so the shootings are allowed and slowly starts to renew. Vilnius city authorities have already issued filming permits for local production, and from now on an additional obligation will be added to film production when filming in public areas to follow the safety rules.

Lithuania has a travel bubble with Latvia, Estonia (The Baltics), Poland. International flights with Germany, Norway and Netherlands have been renewed, more international flights should be approved starting from 1st June (under process).

Kindergartens, schools, libraries, museums, beauty salons, indoor cafes are already open, a lot of cultural initiatives like drive in cinemas in airport and on the roof of shopping mall, musical performances from balconies, masks fashion week are taking place in Vilnius. The city became one big outdoor coffee as Vilnius dismissed the city taxes. Starting from 1st June massive outdoor and indoor events are allowed with safety restrictions. For outdoor events – no more 300 people and keeping 1m distance, indoor events – no more 100 people and keeping 2m distance. These restrictions will be eased during summer time, with some limits – 900 people for outdoor events and 350 indoor events keeping the intensity from 30% to 50%.

Masks are no longer mandatory outside, but indoor f.i. shopping malls, food stores, etc. still is a must. The number of virus cases is shrinking in the country. Total number of infected as of 29th May is over 1600, got well – over 1200, total deaths – 68, new cases – 6-9 per day.

VILNIUS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL AT HOME

Vilnius IFF is adapting to the latest measures enacted by the Lithuanian government to combat the spread of coronavirus, including the cancellation of all public events. The festival will take place March 19–April 2 as scheduled, with more than half of its programme moving to streaming platforms, making Vilnius IFF the first digital festival in Lithuania.

Talking Shorts presents film industry response to the current situation – My Darling Quarantine Short Film Festival! Throughout the quarantine, seven dystopian short films will be presented weekly at www.talkingshorts.com and the audience will be able to select their favourite. Lithuanian Shorts invites you to join this unique festival not only by watching films, but also by supporting the international organization Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the cultural organizations most affected by the COVID-19!
