Every summer, more and more initiatives invite people to step out of traditional cinemas and enjoy open-air films. The Vilnius Film Office recommends the best places in the capital to watch movies throughout the warm season.
„Deep Rivers Run Silent“
„Deep Rivers Run Silent“ is a recurring summer cycle of film screenings and events, returning this year in a new location – the Track Park hangar of the Vilnius Railway Museum, uniquely framed by moving trains. The program is curated in collaboration with cultural organizations from Vilnius and Kaunas that are committed to community-building and the promotion of non-commercial culture and the arts.
From July 1 to August 7, the project will host 18 free events, including film screenings, concerts, radio show listening sessions, a theatrical performance, discussions, and artist talks.
The cycle will open on July 1 with Czech director Jiří Menzel’s 1966 film Closely Watched Trains. Other films in the Meno Avilys program – Girls (dir. Sumitra Peries), Friendship’s Death (dir. Peter Wollen), 21:12 Night Bar (dir. Mary Jimenez), and Bona (dir. Lino Brocka) – will take audiences on a journey through time and space, traversing the cinematic landscapes of the 1970s and 1980s.
