Vilnius bids farewell to 2025 with several dozen films and TV series shot across the city, featuring stories from a wide range of genres and showcasing newly discovered filming locations. As in previous years, production teams from the Nordic countries, the United States, and Germany showed the greatest interest in the Lithuanian capital. Filmmakers from Poland, the United Kingdom, Latvia, Estonia, Belgium, France, Israel, Ukraine, Ireland, the Czech Republic, and Luxembourg also worked in Vilnius.
According to the Vilnius Film Office, a total of 22 feature films and TV series by Lithuanian and international filmmakers were filmed in public spaces in 2025, along with 5 Lithuanian short films, 9 student projects, and several dozen smaller-scale productions. Major companies such as Amazon Prime Video, Sony Pictures Television, BBC and ZDF also filmed in the city.

Among the largest productions were the sci-fi series “Star City” (UAB Baltijos filmų paslaugos), the six-part British TV series “Honey” (UAB Baltijos filmų paslaugos), “Mozart” (UAB Nordic Productions), which tells the story of one of the most famous composers of all time and his family, “We Come in Peace” (UAB Dansu), which brought aliens to Vilnius, and the Danish crime drama “By the Grace of God” (UAB Ahil).
While Vilnius Old Town and socialist modernist buildings remain the city’s most popular filming locations, crews also explored lesser-known areas such as Rasos Colony, Naujininkai, Antakalnis, Kairėnai and others. This year featured numerous large crowd scenes, period-specific set decorations, artificial snow and rain, staged riots, alien landings, and even four-legged stars.
Vilnius hosted a wide range of genres this year: historical dramas, children’s films, crime and sci-fi series, action thrillers, and more. On screen, the city seamlessly transformed into Trondheim, East Berlin, Vienna, Kraków, Paris, and beyond.
It is estimated that over 2,200 temporary jobs were created in Vilnius during film productions in 2025. In total, 490 filming shifts took place in public spaces throughout the year.

Vilnius also attracted commercial productions
Vilnius continued to attract commercial productions, with the number of Lithuanian and international commercials remaining stable over the past few years. In both 2023 and 2024, 70 commercials were filmed, while the previous year recorded 65 productions.
The capital hosted creators of automotive, insurance, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, telecommunications, international banking, and clothing brand commercials. Among the brands were Škoda, E.ON, Heineken, Depop, The North Face, Orange, Lufthansa and the insurance company La Maaf, which filmed in Vilnius for the sixth time.

Vilnius launches the first city film fund
In 2025, the Vilnius City Municipality approved the establishment of the new Vilnius Film Fund and announced its first call for co-productions financing in the autumn. This year, following expert evaluations and funding decisions, 4 co-productions received support: How to Divorce During the War (dir. Andrius Blaževičius), Intimacy (dir. Irma Pužauskaitė), Dice-ching-o-mat (dir. Kristijonas Vildžiūnas) and Rosa & Dara and Their Great Summer Adventure (dir. Martin Duda).

“2025 was a successful and productive year for the film industry in Vilnius. The first city film fund in Lithuania was established in the capital, and the premiere of How to Divorce During the War (dir. Andrius Blaževičius), one of the films supported by the fund, will take place at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. Vilnius hosted a meeting of the European Film Academy board members, and the city was presented as an audiovisual hub at international markets in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and beyond.
All of this once again proves that Vilnius is a film city — one that fosters and sustains a vibrant film ecosystem uniting creators, producers, educational institutions, organizations, industry events and festivals. Together, these elements strengthen the city’s identity and contribute to the growth of Vilnius’ audiovisual sector,” notes Jūratė Pazikaitė, Head of the Vilnius Film Office.
